The Day of Atonement

Matthew 1:23  “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

On The Day of Atonement, over 2000 years ago, I believe Jesus was conceived within Mary, when the Spirit of God came upon her, and the power of the Highest overshadowed her.

Luke 1:26 “And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

Luke 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

Luke 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Luke 1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

Luke 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS.

Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:

Luke 1:33 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.

Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Mary and Joseph were traveling soon before Jesus was to be born, and taking into account that Hebrew women were known to deliver before the time, God’s Son came into this world exactly as He had planned before the foundations of the world were laid. The Biblical Holy Days reveals the details of why this is so.

Jesus IS the Son of God, and those who reject the Truth, are believing the lies that have been perpetuated ever since He walked this earth. They may say He was a prophet and a good man, but certainly not God’s son. Moreover, the Jewish religious leaders wanted to crucify Jesus precisely because He claimed to be the Son of God!

John 19:5 “Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

John 19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, Crucify Him, crucify Him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye Him, and crucify Him: for I find no fault in Him.

John 19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.”

Jesus gave His life on the cross to atone for our sin, and it is through faith in His name that anyone can even be saved! Those who are “born again” of His Spirit understand that Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection from the grave gave us the only way to Heaven.

1 Corinthians 2:6 “Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

1 Corinthians 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

Satan and his “princes of this world” did not understand the power of the cross! And because Jesus “washed us from our sins in His own blood,” (Revelation 1:5b) He became the Atonement for those who trust and believe in Him.

One last Scripture to prayerfully consider. (And by the way most “modern versions” alter this passage or delete parts of it, and “The Serpent Exposed,” reveals why corrupt manuscripts used in the translation process are so dangerous. The poison was ever so subtle in the earlier versions, but not so with “The Message Bible,” written by Eugene H. Peterson, and many current perversions of God’s Holy Word.)

Acts 8:32  “The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before His shearer, so opened He not His mouth:

Acts 8:33   In His humiliation His judgment was taken away: and who shall declare His generation? for His life is taken from the earth.

Acts 8:34   And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

Acts 8:35   Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

Acts 8:36   And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

Acts 8:37   And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

God with us!
What an awesome Saviour! We surely need the LORD God and His love and mercy now, and forever! Amen!
