Day of the Trumpet

Today is an important Biblical Holy Day, know as “the memorial of blowing of trumpets” (a.k.a. Rosh Hashanah); and I encourage you to read my views (at the link provided) on why I believe God’s people should honor these special times and seasons, and seek to understand their great significance.

Rosh HaShanah, which means “head of the year” in Hebrew, is the first of the High Holy Days (Leviticus 23:23-25). The sounding of the Trumpet, (or shofar—a hollowed-out ram’s horn), is specified in the Holy Scriptures, and begins a ten-day period of reflection and penitence which culminates on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur)—the holiest day on the Hebrew calendar.

Rosh HaShanah is a two-day observance and celebration that begins on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year. However, the ecclesiastical lunar new year is on the first day of the first month Nisan, in the spring when Passover is celebrated. It marks Israel’s exodus from Egypt, but more importantly, for Christians, it commemorates the crucifixion of the LORD Jesus. Most Jews do not yet recognize Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as the Messiah of Israel, but they will one Day; along with all who rejected Him as the One “whom God hath sent” to save mankind from their sin.

The sounding of the Trumpet has various meanings in the Holy Scriptures. It can be a call to war, an indicator that a momentous event is about to take place, an urgent reminder and warning of the Final Judgment, and a foreshadowing of the coming of the Messiah.

Irrespective of what some men teach, the Old Testament is just as relevant as the New. The Messiah is revealed from the beginning to the end, unlike what some prominent men say. I recently came across this clip from YouTube entitled “JD Greear – God says forget about the reformation,” He also said during the same sermon some four years ago, that God might say to us, “…will you shut up about the early church…” This man was the president of the Southern Baptist Convention (13 June 2018 – 16 June 2021), and he has voiced even more outrageous statements during his tenure, and beyond.

God’s wrath is certainly being kindled against false teachers, and those who are leading God’s people astray! Consider this passage which validates what God thinks about sin and rebellion against Him.

Zephaniah 1:14-16 “The Great Day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the Day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

That Day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

A Day of the Trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.”

God was extremely angry and was warning that His wrath was soon to be poured out upon the people because of their continual sin and rebellion against Him! We are living in such a time as this, and the warning signs are all around us. We don’t know the Day nor the hour when that Final Trumpet shall sound, but we NEED to be ready and prepared. Sadly, most churches of today are steeped in apostacy and compromise!

1 Peter 4:17-18 "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

God has said that in the Last Days there “shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” God sternly warns us to beware and be not deceived, but so many will not take heed to the warnings! I don’t know how much more God will hold back His wrath, and I pray that you will be among the few who will have “ears to  hear” in the Day of the Trumpet.

1 Corinthians 15:51  “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1 Corinthians 15:52   In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1 Corinthians 15:53   For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Corinthians 15:54   So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

1 Corinthians 15:55   O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

1 Corinthians 15:56   The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

1 Corinthians 15:57   But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:58   Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Something to Think About!
