My parents divorced when I was ten years old, and I never knew my real father. My mother always painted a terrible picture of him, and she never allowed us to see him. After I was married and had children of my own, to my pleasant surprise, he contacted me.
I was inspired to write the following poem as I reflected on the final conversations I had with my father before he died. I have found that God always has a much higher purpose in mind, and I am so thankful for the way He turns my disappointments and heartaches into blessings!
This was orginally posted to my website on Sunday, 21 June 2020.
“I have truly enjoyed the conversations we’ve had of late,
and I Am so thankful You are nothing like I assumed was Your fate.
Those assumptions were based on dissimulation,
I know the truth now and have accurate information.
That is truly all that really matters, You see,
because You are just like the real Father I’d want You to be.
I have always had fond memories of You in my heart,
and I’ve longed for a relationship
when we are together and not apart.
I Am so very thankful and I must confess,
that I have truly been so wonderfully blessed,
with others to stand in and take Your place,
Until the great Day that we meet again face to face!
I Am so sorry for the pain that You have been through,
and the sense of loss that I am sure has been there, too.
It’s hard to think that due to death
we are finally going to meet,
but I can even be thankful in the face of seeming defeat.
I truly trust and believe all that has taken place,
was in Your mighty plan that You hoped we’d embrace.
And due to the great knowledge and my genuine faith,
death is the beginning if we believe what the Prophet sayeth:
Repent and believe for the day is at hand,
and it’s time for God’s people to make a stand!
God truly desires to give and to share,
His glorious kingdom with those He holds dear.
I hope you will be spared from the wrath that is to come;
and there is only one way, through Jesus Christ, His Son!
For unto us a child was born.
And They have called His name Emmanuel.
The Mighty Counselor! The Prince of Peace! The Almighty God!
Who is Jesus my LORD, my Savior, my Redeemer, and my Friend.
And He’s given Himself for all those that call upon Him.
Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, and might,
be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne,
and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever.
Amen!”
